When in Rome, do as the Romans do, is a proverb I try to follow during all of my trips, and this time I follow it literally. When you come to Rome, don’t just visit the most popular monuments and be a simple part of a mass of tourists who, I honestly believe, are not so interested in history of the monuments, the story behind each and every single one of the buildings, but are just going from a place to place making thousands of photos and not really understanding what they see.
Try to use smaller streets, look for not so famous monuments, drink coffee or eat pizza at a local coffee shop or a pizzeria where you will surely feel more comfortable than in a place crowded with tourists who came there because Trip Advisor said so. I suggest you to explore, to be curious, to ask what local people enjoy and that will surely bring you to better and cheaper places in the city that probably offer much better service than the tourist ones.
